Service Desk Helper FAQ
SDHelper
What does unstable mean?
SDHelper is updated nearly daily, most changes are small- but even small changes can break parts of the software. We want you to have the stability of having a version you can rely on (stable), but have the option to use the newest version with the latest functionality (unstable). Don't be afraid to use either one- unstable is updated nearly daily, while stable is updated quite a bit less frequently.
It seems to have broken a program, the program keeps trying to unzip!
You're correct! There were issues with one particular version of SDHelper which would think the program you were updating was the actual program instead of a zip archive. If you need to fix it open your file menu (in the top bar) and click "force update". That should take care of it.
Bad Permissions??!
That just means that SDHelper can't download that program- probably because you aren't paying for it. If that doesn't seem right give us a call!
Why does it keep asking for my username and password?
SDHelper uses your Rossware credentials to access your downloads- if it keeps asking you that means you haven't set them up in Service Desk. You can click help in your menu then click "Set Credentials" and enter them there. It will stop asking you.
How do I install SDHelper on my system?
On the right hand side of SDHelper is a basic interface directly into the programs machinery- there are many commands available including an "install" command, which you type into the little text entry field to the left of the "run" button. That will copy SDHelper into your SD folder and make a shortcut.
Commands? Why?
SDHelper has quite a few jobs, but we don't want to bother you with all of the boring stuff, so we made some machinery to allow us to access the important functionality (like helping you when your files get broken) quickly without making a ton of unimportant buttons which could confuse or annoy anyone.
Can I set up the program to automatically update everything for me?
Yes. However it is not generally recommended- there may be times we release a program a bit too early and it could cause problems with your system. However if you are adamant that you would like to auto-update, make sure you have at least version 1.10.1078.5918 of SDHelper (Remember the unstable edition is updated before the stable), then make a new task in your task scheduler that calls SDHelper with a command line parameter of "autoupdate" please be sure to update before 11PM or after 2AM to prevent conflicts with the Auto Archive.
